About

Why did I start this blog?

I am not here to become popular or earn money through my writing; my personal feeling is that there are already far too many people who do this purely to make a living or to be seen - and judging by the number of views on some blogs of that sort, they are doing a very good job indeed.

My reasons for being here are different. Some of the ideas and thoughts that I have had in my head for a long time have simply become too loud to ignore. Actually, they passed the point of ignoring a long time ago - so, simply put, I have to do this in order to save my sanity.

Goal

I will ask a lot of questions on this blog, and sometimes I will give (my) answers; as these will be public, they are (and should be) subject to scrutiny. You are welcome to comment on them in any constructive manner.

For me, writing is a way to express the creative self. Writing ideas down can also be used as a sort of personal milestone marker that can help me to track how I think about different subjects over time.

There are many things I would like to achieve here, but foremost are the following two. These are things I would really like to change about myself:

  • First, I was far too jealously protective of my ideas before, and I would like to change that. In part, that was because I was thinking about possible ways to monetise ideas. It was also because I was often paranoid that someone would steal my ideas and benefit from them. But most of time it was a combination of those two things.
  • The other thing I would like to change is my control-freak attitude that tells me that if I don't do a certain thing, no one will do it - or at least no one will do it in a way that will be good enough for what I've envisioned. Strangely enough, that was reinforced by a degree of artistic dissatisfaction I felt with my efforts, which always whispered to me, "Even when you do something, it can be always done better". This attitude has to be changed, because anyone waiting for the perfect solution will never actually do anything, as everything we do will always have some imperfections.
  • Coming from an impoverished background, I held onto these limiting views partly because of my experience of poverty. Sharing was not part of my vocabulary, and I have somehow always felt alone in my battles. But going forward, I have understood that if I really want to make a change, I have to renounce old ways. A few books that I have read recently (I'll mention these later on) have had a huge impact on me in this regard.
  • Lastly, I would like to write about different perceptions, insights, and ideas, but also about concrete actions that can lead to change . In the words of the great Mahatma Gandhi "Be the change you wish to see in the world" *1. After writing, I will need to stand behind my words, roll up my sleeves, and do some work, or at least try to embody the letter and spirit of what I am offering as solutions.

In the end, if any of the ideas I expound here helps anyone - even just one person - for me, that would be worth the effort.

What kind of ideas will I be writing about?

Most of the things I tend to write about are stories, metaphors, life philosophies, science, politics, and other random things. Furthermore, as I have a background in technology, I will, from time to time, propose practical solutions for the problems I am going to write about.

Again, some of my thoughts are just a by-product of my curiosity, and maybe this blog is a good way to test these with the wider public, or just to ask people to think in a different way by giving them a new angle from which to see things.

In my mind, reading is very similar to taking someone's hand and exploring the world from his or her perspective. It is almost like being guided through someone else's mind. In that way, a reader can see how a writer perceives the world.

On the other hand, a picture is worth a thousand words-and video is probably worth a few more than that. So why not film instead of writing? Although videos seem to give more, such media often introduce undesirable "side effects" insidiously. While watching videos, we may find ourselves thinking about how something was filmed, whether the final product is bad or good, where the background noise is coming from, the speaker's accent, the quality of his or her voice, the angles and colours of the shoot, and many other things, rather than just following the narrative. In contrast, when we read something, with the help of bit of imagination we can all create our preferred speaker in our minds, so that the only thing we need to think about is the words written on the page or screen in front of us.

I hope that the following pages will show you my world. So take my hand, buckle up, and let's go on a journey!

1. Mahatma Gandhi Quote

1* Mahatma Gandhi hasn't exactly said "Be the change you wish to see in the world", what he actually said was: "We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do."
